<aside> 💡 Why does this exist? The Change Healthcare outage impacts most folks within autism care because many will not be able to submit claims to insurance. It can be confusing and frustrating for a system you don’t interact with to have such a large possible impact on the financial health of your clinic, so as folks who do billing full time, we’re trying to put together as much content as possible to help. If you have more questions that this doesn’t answer, feel free to email [email protected] or ask them here.

Context

We wanted to make sure you're aware of the cyber attack on Change Healthcare, and to double-check if it'll impact your claims submission (and cash flow). Change is one of the most popular claims clearinghouses connected to many practice management systems (e.g., CentralReach).

Based on our investigation, we believe that the outage may continue into the next week or more — which would prevent claims submission for anyone on the clearinghouse.

If you're on a different clearinghouse (e.g., Waystar, OfficeAlly, Availity, etc.) you may not be affected, but some clearinghouses still rely on Change Healthcare for support. If you're on Change or aren't sure what clearinghouse you're on, please let us know if it'd be helpful to connect.

Impact: It is important to note this attack is not limited to ABA, with medical records and critical clinical service across the board being compromised. CHC, a direct subsidiary of United Healthcare (the largest network in the USA), handles approximately 15 billion healthcare transactions annually, which equates to about one-in-three U.S. patient records.

We know this is an incredibly difficult time and any changes to cash flow greatly impact patient and provider livelihood. While some suspect this to be resolved by 2/29, we are all in this together as caretakers of QOC.
